Port W1 is the first course of the Elementary Portuguese three-course sequence delivered in a fully online format. The course follows a communicative approach. The online format combines technology-based language instruction with virtual class meetings and live, guided conversation sessions. The course materials and activities focus on consolidating the same array of skills promoted in the regular Elementary Portuguese I course (face-to-face). By the end of this course students are expected to develop basic proficiency in Portuguese at the Novice-mid level.

CollegeMy favorite professor on the UCSB campus. Pedro Craveiro goes above and beyond to help his students. He is caring, accommodating, and passionate about teaching. At the time of writing, I have taken 4 classes with him and I will be to taking more. Each class has been engaging, insightful, and fun. I could not recommend him enough.
I previously took 125A & words cannot describe how incredible Pedro is. It's clear he is passionate about teaching his students & finding ways to engage them. There's lots of variety in the weekly assignments to break up monotony, encouraging people to get creative with showing their understanding of the material. Very detailed + helpful feedback!
Pedro Craveiro is an awesome Portuguese teacher. He makes every class entertaining. I took this class for my major and I highly recommend it.
It's rare to find a professor who truly cares about their students like Pedro. He is attentive and ensures everyone understands a topic before moving on. He creates a positive learning environment and encourages group work and speaking in Portuguese. His was the only class that quarter that I was sad to miss when I was sick. I 100% recommend!
Had Pedro for PORT125A and he is awesome. He just wants you to succeed and get something out of his courses that you can apply to your specific major. Highly recommend any of his random elective classes.
Span 1 is one of my favorite classes in the 2022 fall quarter. It was the first formal experience in learning Spanish as my third-language in college level. Prof. Pedro really does great in encouraging students in speaking Spanish and helping us to understand the context. His classroom is so interesting and super supportive. He's very patient, too!
