Test is not easy but grade will be curved. Clear lecture notes will be posted on gs. He is handsome.
Petersen gives great lectures with good notes. He posts all his slides and recordings on gauchospace, but does give pop quizzes. He is very passionate about the subject and cares for his students.
Great lecturer. Posts his notes and voice recording online so lecture isn't mandatory, but I still recommend going. Responds to emails and accessible during office hours. Conceptually, material isn't too diff and although the midterm felt brutal, there was a curve. Final was cancelled due to virus so can't speak to that. Easy on the eyes too
Lecture isnt mandatory but he does give pop quizzes here and there (sometimes he tells you, sometimes he doesnt) but theyre open note so if you show up to lecture and take notes, you should be fine. Material is very dense, and proof heavy, but he gives you the formulas youll need for applying it. If you go to class and study you should be fine.
I like how he teaches the class. This is real statistics. Though one can just tell you all the things and let you practice like robots, in this class, you will have chance to practice and understand by yourself. It is hard, but I think it is really good experience to prepare for some practical things.
Petersen gives clear lectures and it super friendly and approachable. Definitely one of the better prof's in the stats department. The material for 126 is pretty much the same no matter who you take it with, so I'd recommend Petersen.
His lecture is very clear and helpful. Homework is fair. He is very familiar with material covered on class, so going to office hour if you are confused on anything. The only thing is his grading system is a bit harsh compare to usual statistics professor.
His lectures are boring and he teaches the class with a strong focus in proofs and less application.
Hes a good teacher for the material but I didnt like his grading system.
Inconsistent grader, ignores questions asked in emails, wouldn't take again
He's a good person but his lectures can be confusing. Midterm was hard, but the final was much more doable. He gave us the opportunity to replace over half of our midterm with our final exam grade if we did better, which helped. There was a group project and he bumped up students of the top 5 projects. Gives several opportunities to improve grade.
Alex really enjoys teaching and makes his lectures clear and legible. They are posted online but examples are explained better in class. The material isn't too difficult to understand but you have to put in work. His grading is fair and allowed for students to make up their grade if they did bad on the midterm. Would take a class with him again!
Do NOT take him.
Alex is a great professor. Lectures clearly, posts his notes and the recordings of his lecture online. Tests and homework are very fair and ultimately easy if you study and his explanations over email and in OH are great. He's not strict about attendance although he does comment that people take his online notes for granted. Also he's handsome.
