One of the best professors I've ever had. He knows his material, he's very organized and extremely helpful. He's funny too. Too bad Spring 2014 was his last semester teaching.
He is AMAZING!!! He is a hard teacher but if you make an effort to improve he will take that into consideration. Going to class is a must and take good notes! cause papers and tests are mostly from lecture. Reading load is kinda a lot but you really dont have to read EVERYTHING. Overall, sexy and very intelligent.
He really tries to do what's best for his students. He used a smaller textbook (than what's normal) so it'd be cheaper for students. He may rush during lectures but he apologizes/slows down if students tell him to. He'll lecture people about sleeping, coming in late, etc., but c'mon, we're all adults here! The videos he shows are interesting too!
Soc 108st. Very nice, cordial. Smart. Great vocab. I would have done better if my attendance was spot-on. Overall very helpful. Extremely easy to get ahold of.
I LOVED HIM!!!! The lectures were really interesting... he was HILARIOUS. The class is pretty easy if you keep up on the reading and the papers are pretty simple. Tests are kinda hard - but not if you took good notes in class. Bring your lap top because he talks REALLY fast. But I highly recommend him. Plus, he is a babe.
Great professor! Lectures were very interesting, great videos for clarity! As the quarter progressed the lectures did become less stimulating, but hey, it happens. In response to a previous comment: Yes, Tim has attitude, but within reason (i.e. sleeping in class - this isn't high school, if you don't want to go, don't). Would highly recommend =)

great prof! lecture not mandatory but he made the material so interesting that i did. 2 papers=clear & easy. exams=multiple choice. books are inexpensive & easy to comprehend. didnt attend review sessions, but exams were a breeze. review here & there & youll be prepared. TAKE MECHLINSKI. young but knows what hes talking about.
Both papers were on easy topics. Test are easy if you stay on top of the reading. Definitely go to the review session, the T.A.s practically tell you what's going to be on the exam. Lectures can be boring because he just reads definitions off the slides. But, overall great class, and great teacher!
This was one of thew worst classes I've taken at UCSB. The readings were difficult to follow and Mechlinski took it personally when students did not read. He's got an attitude, so watch out. Stay on top of the readings or you'll be penalized.
OMG IF YOU TAKE ANY CLASS AT UCSB, TAKE SOC 1 WITH TIM! Not only is the class and readings very interesting, but Tim is the hottest man on the face of the planet! I always make sure to sit in the front of the class so I can watch his gorgeous biceps bulge when he raises his arm. WARNING: you will be horny by the end of class!
Hot Stuff! Hes a fairly good professor but his essay topics suck and the TAs didn't even know what was going on...his lectures are interesting and the books are awesome you are able to understand everything you read. The material that his test cover is not difficult but the way he words his questions is confusing you definitely need to study!
He is totally hot!!! But he has a bit of a temper, don't sleep in his class because he will embarrass you! But the class and material is very interesting! The paper topics are easy, but the midterm and final are worded in a difficult manner, so STUDY!!!
The only real class period you EVER have to attend is when Tim takes his shirt off to teach something about social norms... he has the BEST body i have ever seen. It is definitely worth taking the class for. Oh, and he's a good teacher, engaging, entertaining, and uses examples which is helpful. And his TA che is hot too!
Besides the fact that he took of his shirt in class, he is very enthusiastic. He syllabus is very basic, final and midterm both multiple choice. Book were cheap and he chose a very interesting selection of books.
introductory course: lectures are clear but present a lot of material. Gives good examples, few video clips. Engages students by directing asking for input. Overall he is demanding: lots of terms and concepts but its all generally interesting
Everyone I knew in class agreed he was the worst professor they've had. Boring class, useless info--consisted of awkward silences where he'd wait for people to answer, but since no one understood his question, no one would ever answer. The TAs barely knew what he wanted in assignments so everyone was confused & panicked. My first B in college.
Tim is great would definetly recomend taking one of his classes
Course is pretty basic, a few paper, but a lot of emphasis on the readings. He's leniant on you in the beginning but demands a lot more as you go along. For someone who is so young (29) he sure knows a lot about his topic
