He has a thick accent, which is hard to understand. What I probably don't like the most is that he teaches on the assumption that everyone can learn foreign Indian terms & names on the spot and already understand Indian culture. Very unfair. What's more is that although we watch films weekly, he doesn't test ANYTHING on the films.
great prof, interesting material. He is very helpful in office hours.
The class and films are interesting, but he's not a good professor! Teaches about random people and history rather than the films themselves. Never tells you what's on the tests and expects you to memorize everything he says.
I respect the fact that he worked hard to get where he is, but hes a ****in ****. He isn't clear enough what he wants and expects to to memorize a bunch of random names rather than the important qualities or events of the genre. I really liked the films he shows as well, too bad, I DON'T RECOMMEND
I thought this professor was great. He did a wonderful job of making this class interesting. I wasn't sure if I'd enjoy this class but I did. It was great. There was a lot of reading but it was well worth it. The midterm and final were both easy. It was a great class!
Don't buy the reader, it's not used. The films aren't what you're expecting Bollywood films to be--they're a lot older and more boring. He is an interesting lecturer, but you aren't tested on any of it. All you need is to go to the midterm/final review lectures and he'll tell you SPECIFICALLY what terms to know. Easy class.
At first, this class seems really hard and there is a ton of information. But dont get overwelmed, because his tests are very easy and you dont need to do the reading. He goes over everything he wants you to know in class, so take good notes. Kind of depressing class after awhile, but he is a very good teacher and extremely knowledgeable.
Easy tests if u study. Explains things very well. Great lecturer. But DON'T under any circumstance take his honors section: it's pointless cause he doesn't give a rat's ass what you think. He just wants to tell you what HE thinks and he's not very supportive of your thoughts. But awesome lecturer, so I highly recommend his classes.
Don't worry about what you think of this pompous ass. Know that he thinks the world of himself and that your opinion will never matter. Take this class in summer school and save yourself a quarter of eyerolling madness.
He's alright. I wouldn't say great, but alright. He talks a LOT, so be prepared. Usually he writes things down on the board, so it's good for visual learners. Nice guy, really likes what he teaches so he has enthusiasm - more than decent amount of reading. Midterm, final, paper. Pretty straightforward - no tricks or pop quizzes. Didn't take role.
This guy really knows his stuff.. he's almost TOO smart. There's so much information in each lecture. The tests aren't too bad if you study.

Hands down, the best professor I had in college. He is a great lecture and very intersting. Plue he is freaking hot!!!
He really got me interested into film theory and analysis. Before his class I really just cared more about the productions aspect of film studies, but because of his open mind and very broad knowledge (plus his brilliant lectures) of everything behind the

His tests are just retarded
Sexy and good lecturer.
He is amazing, so much fun in lecture and makes the topics really intersting
He has animal magnitism. He dresses damn sexy. Good luck keeping your toongue in your mouth. But seriously he's the best professor in the department.
Picks great films, discusses issues at great length in a manner that is very easy to understand. Overall, a great teacher!
Lectures like having an interesting and engaging conversation with someone (although he does most of the talking). The movies were awesome and had a good variety to them. A ton of reading but just going to class helps a lot.
very knowledgable
Sarkar is really enthusiastic and friendly. He picks good films, and his lectures are very informative.
