This course was pretty difficult to follow because there are so many details to remember. More studies than I can comprehend and the findings were sometimes difficult to decipher, even with the supplemental lecture material. The format of the tests give me anxiety just thinking about them.
Grade is based off of 2 small papers and weekly quizzes. Papers are 2 pages double spaced (sounds easy right) think again. Reid is a tough grader but he is a respectable guy. Quizzes are challenging and based off of lectures and readings. Take good notes. Overall, I enjoyed his lectures and I like his personality, but not an easy A.
Based his teaching off of pure empirical research studies. Got a little confusing at times but he's willing to re-explain everything if needed. I loved the challenge to learn through this lecture style nonetheless. Probably my favorite lecture style in the comm dept thus far. Would recommend!
I love Reid, I've taken multiple classes with him. He's truly brilliant and a very funny guy. I think the negative feedback is coming from students who don't understand his sense of humor. You must attend lectures to be successful. Go to his office hours, he WANTS to help but he's busy and you won't get as much feedback by approaching during class
I really don't like his lecture style. Slides are very confusing and he just goes on and on all the time. I'm about to take my final and I still don't know what this class is about. Don't take his class
Easily one of the top Comm. professors on campus. Super interesting material. Not the easiest classes, but great ones that are well worth taking. I have had several classes with Reid and have always enjoyed them. He is a really good guy, crazy smart, funny, and clearly loves the subject matter. Highly recommend any of his classes.
Took 2 classes with Reid and really liked them overall. His lectures aren't the most enjoyable but he's pretty funny and discusses some very interesting studies. Exams are almost entirely lecture material so if you review your notes and get the bare basics of each reading you should be fine. If you are a good with papers his classes are for you.
Assigned three papers and complained about having to grade them. Very picky about writing style. Like someone else said, he seemed to hate his job. Projected an annoyed attitude during lectures. Avoid him.
Not the best of professors in the Communication Department. A very critical man and not very approachable. Class material interesting, yet his style puts a damper on the overall rating of this class.
The class is confusing. I got to the end of the quarter and had NO IDEA what my grade would be because final grade is based on the paper (45% of the grade and graded by the TA). I did well in the class and my advice is GO TO LECTURE - there is no way you can understand the class without. Also TAKE NOTES - you should do fine.
Professor Reid laid everything in his course out perfectly on sakai! Not only did he lay out all of the readings in pdf's on the website, but he was responsive and provided all we needed to succeed.
Clear lectures, provides powerpoint slides on handout. MUST GO TO LECTURE- there wasn't a reader or book, so you gotta go. No midterm, paper was a pain, but the final wasn't bad. Overall good class.
Lectures are clear and gives a handout of the slides at the beginning of class. Encourages discussion at the beginning of each topic. One paper and one final. NO MIDTERM which scared me but the test was very easy if you memorized terms, theories, their findings, and charts. Start paper research early. Overall fair grader and doesn't ask for too muc
He's really entertaining to listen to. He's funny and keeps you interested. The final was alright..but make sure you go to lecture because it's all based on lecture material
Final was harder than he makes it appear to be, make sure you know the charts and attend lecture. Grade based on assessment, research paper, and final.
There is no midterm... your grade is based on weekly one page responses, a 6-7 page paper and the final... unfortunately the paper and final are both at the very end so you have no idea what your grade will be. Fortunately the test is pretty easy... just be sure that you understand the studies that he goes over in class.

not at all entertaining. the paper is ridiculously enormous and there's no way of finding out what your grade in the class is until the end since there is no midterm. the topics can be interesting but he does a poor job of tying everything together so there is little cohesion. the class is basically a lit review of comm research.
the paper is a huge pain. you CANNOT procrastinate it until the last minute. the readings are tedious and pointless. his notes are confusing and his lectures arent very interesing. the only thing i liked is that hes kind of funny. wouldnt suggest the class unless you enjoy writing massive research papers
kind of boring. gives u the power point notes before lecture, so there isn't a lot of note taking. the paper is a huge **** and it's 50% of your grade, and the hw is busy work. basically, u don't know ur gade in the class at all until you finish the class cuz there's no midterm. very iffy about the prof.
Awful. No other word to explain this class. Did not understand half of what he was saying in lecture. Tests are impossible. He does not want you to pass!!!!!!! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS SAVE YOURSELF!!!! Profesor Reid if you are reading this please retire.
