the baldwins are very fun, and truly interested in teaching. lectures were really funny and informative. test were kind of hard.
The Baldwins are the cutest things ever! Their sex class is great, well taught, and it is very easy! Only class I actually get 100% on tests!
The Baldwins are great, they make sex class lots of fun and offer an excellent presentation of the material, they also really care about thier students and what is going on in their lives and are always available for questions, etc.
So the thing about 152A is that you do actually need to read the book, or at least i did, and got an A. They are super nice once you're in 152B but before that generally it's hard to get into the in crowd. Very understanding, kind and helpful people.
Everyone at UCSB should take this class.. the Baldwins were awesome professors, they were so helpful.. a lot of memorization but totally worth it
I disagree with the previous! The Baldwins don't teach, they entertain. Lecture is maybe 1% of what is on the tests. Everyone knows this. Get an 'A' or whatever, but that won't change the fact that nice people don't always make good professors!
Yup, this course is terrible. But the tests have little to no connection to the lectures. Only the 1st test is from lectures. The Baldwins are nice but, terrible professors. Knowing the material is not what helps, just memory and regurgitation!!
One of the best courses I've taken at UCSB, awesome husband and wife teaching team, great, fun information and videos, involves lots of memorization, tests pretty hard, just study the material over and over again! It's worth it.
The Baldwins are awesome teachers. I learned so much valuable info in Human Sexuality that can be used forever. Definitely take that class, or at least audit it during your time here. The class isn't super hard (as long as you study and go to reviews)
Really not hard at all, just don't be an idiot. Read the book sometimes, go to lecture and you should be just fine...
This class is sooo hard for an elective course. WHO GRADES THE TESTS!!!!! The TAs WILL make you rip your hair out because they grade the tests so harhsly. I do not recommend this class unless you want to devote lots and lots of studying time to an electiv
LOVES teaching and shows it. Very enthusiastic about the subject area. He's so great that I followed him and took his classes for a whole year! Also teaches Soc 142, 152A/B/C and 165E.
i think what everyone has said is good. These were my fav classes, the bladwins are the best proff's at this school!
John Baldwin is the best teacher I ever had at UCSB. His tests are hard but when you do well in his class it reflects that you KNOW your subject. Got an A and then became a T.A.
Great professors! Both are insanely knowledgable about the subject and teach in an easy-to-understand way. Tests are hard but very fair. Lots of memorization
The Baldwins teach an amazing class... the way they feed off each other is just outstanding. Their passion for the topic makes you want to learn more. Wonderful lecturers... a very clear, and concise class.
Seems like an overview class, but they expect you to be extremely specific for answers. They cover dozens of topic, but the tests are just a few questions wanting very specific details.
Hands down, the two (John & Janice) bestprofs in the Soc dept - and the only ones intellectually open-minded. Their classes are tough but you'll learn way more than your typical soc class. Highly reccomended.
gret class, informative and fun... three midterms and a final but not too hard! Awesome people the Balwins.
If you are queer, I do not recommend these classes. I got an A in the first one, moved to B, and was surrounded by heteros who thought a day on queer issues was enough. At least I can give sex info to my straight friends...
The professors are excellent and engaging people. Subjects such as anatomy, contraception, sexual therapy, and relationships. It isn't easy, and there is lots of reading. I found the material to be VERY worthwhile, but the TA's who lead reviews sucked.
These professors are the very best professors I have ever had. Yes, the exams are hard. BUT fair. It is NOT impossible to earn an A - but you do have to study and really know your stuff.
The Baldwins are very interesting and amusing teachers, but is almost impossible to get more than a B in this class! They expect you to know soooo much material when only a fraction of it is actually covered in class, much less tested on.
What the hell, who grades these ridiculous tests? There is a reason why noone gives essay tests anymore, because you can be fair in how you grade them. The Baldwins are a bunch of tools who will drive you crazy with their laser pointers.
