The material wasn't inherently difficult, but a lot of her test questions didn't make any sense and she wouldn't allow calculators. A lot of people in the class called her out and told her that the midterm was too long and too difficult, but she didn't seem to want to admit that she was at fault. Overall bad at teaching, disorganized, stubborn.
This class is absolutely ridiculous. She does not teach and is only concerned about cheating. She spends so much time on assigning seats during exams and it takes her weeks to email out test scores. She cannot get aything right, whether it is concepts on her powerpoints or the seating assignment in class. The final exam as impossible and unfair.
nice lady outside of class, awful teacher. made so many mistakes on lecture examples and on the TESTS! Awful administration of the midterm. how hard is it to pass out tests efficiently!?? refused flat out to provide a practice test for the final. very set in her ways.
By far the WORST professor I've had at UCSB. The examples she does in class are not helpful at all and confuse most of the class. Her tests are nothing like the hw she assigns and no calculators allowed. She is the most frustrating professor, I feel like I didn't learn anything. She can not teach to save her life, avoid her if you can.
One of the worst, as you can see. I'm usually very pro-professor but she crushed my desire to actually learn physics. She makes the subject so much more confusing than it has to be. And not only didn't allow calculators when needed but wouldn't give practice's that didn't require calculators. avoid her.
DO NOT take her no matter what!!! I have had some bad teachers but she is a joke. She gets problems in class and on powerpoints wrong. Everyone in the class laughs at her! Many students will complain about the grades because she refuses to curve. Worst classroom experience of my life!!! Hope you are reading this Fygenson... just retire already!!!
avoid fygenson like the effing plague. she is hands down the absolute worst professor i've ever had at UCSB. she messes up on her own examples and has no teaching abilities whatsoever. i should've dropped when i had the chance and finished the physics series over summer or something. just terrible. i no longer love physics.
She is a horrible and unhelpful professor. She constantly makes mistakes in her examples and the examples have nothing to do with the homework at all. She is not good at dealing with student questions and she doesn't adjust or clarify her answers when students still don't understand. I STRONGLY suggest avoiding her classes if possible.
This teacher is the worst teacher I have ever had. She gives homework without explaining how to do it, gives pointless examples in lecture and is incompetent when it comes to student questions. Avoid her at all costs. She will ruin your life with her poor teaching skills. Everything you learn will be from the book.
Not a good professor. The demos she did in class failed constantly and she made way too many subtle sexual jokes while doing them. The tests emphasized concepts more than applications (this is a class for engineers not physicists). Homework was a bit excessive and section was totally useless.
Horrible teacher, I didn't like physics to start with and now I hate it even more. Her lectures are pointless, doesn't explain very well, you kinda have to teach yourself. She can't even do the demos right.
She is the absolute worst professor i have ever had to deal with. Not only do i feel awkward during her lectures when she messes up the demos, but often when she is trying to show a proof she makes many mistakes. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS UNLESS YOU WANT TO SPEND 20+ HOURS/WEEK DOING ONLINE HOMEWORK.
While it is one thing to understand and keep along in her lectures, it is quite another to do well on the class hw. The TA is an extremely harsh grader and does not like to give out points unless the answers match her train of thought. I'm just glad that I'm not a physics major and I'm taking the class P/NP. Otherwise, I would not take the class.

She was the worst ever. Not only was she the most disorganized professor I have ever had but she was completely useless in office hours.
I used to like Physics. I stopped going to lectures because she is impossible to understand. But, you can literally fail every test and get a B+ in the class by doing the homework. Super easy.
the worst teacher ever. i think i went to 2 lectures. i think i did better BECAUSE i didn't go to lecture. her tests are impossible and have nothing to do with the impossible hw. i managed a B though...don't even know how that happened.
the most disorganized professor that i've had at ucsb
Fygenson was absolutely the WORST professor. Her lectures were so far behind the work that we were expected to complete and the homework was never anything like the tests. THE MOST MONOTONOUS, BORING LECTURES IN THE UNIVERSE!! If you have no choice but to take her class, don't wear bright colors, sweatshirts, or hats. Bring tissue, you'll be cryin
lots of tough homework that doesn't really prepare you for the tests. Most of her test material comes from lecture-- conceptual stuff. Be sure to wear neutral colors to lecture (avoid hats too!) she'll call on you for sure
She is a sheisty ****. By far the worst tecaher I have had at UCSB. She doesnt explain jack, has a bad book, assignes impossible homework, which is, by the way, 3 chapters ahead of lecature. Fygenson, if you read this, retire now. Work in McDonalds. hey need some more idiots to flip burgers.
Took it in summer school. May be the worst teacher I have ever had, and I've had some horrible ones. Maybe she's gotten better since I took it, but she was boring, annoying, and had impossible tests, my genius friends could barely get A's.
homework is hard because the book is horrible, spend the extra money for a modern book it is well worth it, fygenson is very enthusiastic and helpful if you go visit her during office hours
