Prof. Moak is passionate about his subject and the class (Holocaust in France) was interesting. Participation and attending class is a must. The grades were based on attendance (27%), a midterm (33%) and a final (40%) with an extra credit assignment of turning in an outline of your final.
Moak was super chill! Lots of reading, but engaging lectures and pretty minimal assignments. For Global 1, midterm was an essay and the final was a pretty easy MC exam. He gave the online class warning for pop quizzes, but be aware of that in person. Just pray you get a good TA
Really nice guy. He is very accomodating considering the Covid situation. The pop quiz and exam will remain for 24 hours, which really helps with international students like me who live in a totally different time zone. Would definitely recommend this class to a friend for GE requirements.
Prof. Moak is pretty solid and I don't understand all the really negative reviews. He's a pretty nice guy and wants people to do well in his class. His lectures can be pretty boring, but interesting if you enjoy history (slides are packed). Readings can also be long and boring. Work load consisted of weekly forum posts, 2 essay midterm and final.
I had Moak for HIST 123C during Fall '20. The course was remote but I felt that I learned a lot anyway. Moak structures the course perfectly and his lectures were easy to understand. There were two essays in the course which had fairly easy topics. In addition, there was a discussion board that I viewed as pointless but it not difficult.
Professor Moak really made me appreciate global studies, and reminded me why I want to major in the subject. Although he does grade on a few things he makes the final extremely clear due to it being based off of lecture. I really enjoyed this class and looked forward to lecture! Take his class! :D
Moak is a gem. He recognizes that we're under a lot of stress because of COVID, and sincerely cares that we enjoy lectures and the material. Made me reconsider my major
This is the easiest Gen Ed class I've ever taken. If you're looking for an easy A take this class! There are weekly lectures and readings- the readings don't even matter for the tests. I never went to a lecture, I just skimmed through the lecture notes before the tests and ended up with an A. Literally put in 0 work. He's also very caring and great
Professor Moak is very kind and funny. With that being said, you need not show up to live sessions but you should at least take the time to watch his recorded lectures and take notes since most of his quizzes and the final are based on his lectures. Make sure you do the discussion groups in case anything happens last minute and need a grade boost.
Great professor who obviously cares about the subject and his students! I took the class online, and I read a little of the textbook, but mostly watched the lectures (which can be watched async) and still learned a lot and passed. Would recommend this prof!
amazing professor. the lectures and material are very inspirational. and there is not much homework but a weekly forum. there are tow pop quizs and final, the note on slides are important and go to the lecture you would be fine. if you read the lecture carefully enough the reading would be optional
Absolutely incredible. Prof Moak is the kindest professor I've ever had. I took his class remotely because of the pandemic, but I was just as or more engaged had the class been in person. Take his class--you'll learn a lot, and know you are being taught by someone who also sees you as a human being.
Professor Moak is phenomenal. He really cares about every student and always makes his lectures engaging. His assignments and exams are very reasonable and lenient as long as you put the work in. He also writes the most heartwarming emails to give the class reminders and heads up on deadlines. 10/10 would want to take him again!
Professor Moak is an exceptional educator. His lectures are clear and direct, assignments more than reasonable, and he is just all around an enjoyable person. I took GLOBL1 online and had the choice to watch lectures synchronously or asynchronously. Definitely one of the best teachers I've had in a while and a fun class.
If you have the option to take GLOBL 1 with David Moak, I highly recommend it. I took it while remote, and it was one of the best classes Ive taken remotely. Lectures were very engaging, and the pop quizzes, midterm, and final were all reasonable. The final was multiple choice, and most questions were leading to some extent.
Super kind and accomodating. Very accessible and understanding. Refreshing to have such a respectful prof who cares about you as a student and as a human!
3 quizzes, the last one is your final. There is one paper that is the midterm. Attendance wasn't mandatory as he also records his lectures. The book is hard to read but he goes over key points from the reading in his lectures. 10/10 professor because he cares about his students and tries to make the class easy. Don't be afraid to take Prof. Moak!
Hes a very nice professor and his lectures are very flowing and informative. The slides are simple and his tests are mainly lecture based. He tries to keep the peace as best he can and does his best to create a fun dynamic learning environment.
His slides are super dense, lots of bullet points; however, he does a nice job summarizing the textbook through the powerpoint slides. Weekly news discussion posts, 2 pop quizzes, midterm consists of 2 papers, and the final is an MCQ. Pay attention during lectures and read the textbook or you will regret it!
Great dude. Without a doubt, will make himself available to you if you have questions or a general interest in the material. Really enjoyed the class and would take again.
Really dope professor and was super understaning. If you try you will easily pass the class. Even if you dont really try you'll still at least get a B. Tries to lighten the mood and crack jokes and will stay after to talk about anything with you.
Very clearly cares about his students, and made my life a little easier/more interesting during a pretty crappy time to be alive.
The textbook that this class uses is unnecessarily dense. I did fine on the midterm (2 essays) and 2 pop quizzes without doing the readings. Professor Moak cares about his students and it shows when attending office hours. The lectures are when you learn the most!
Given the COVID/protest circumstances, Prof. Moak was very fair, in that his tests (including his pop quizzes) were doable if you followed his lectures. The class isn't too much work and he's clear and very informative in the way he presents the material. He clearly cares about his students.
