Lectures tended to be very interesting. your grade is a midterm and final, so if you're looking for grade boosters try lieberman or potter for busywork. A.F.'s tests were hard--you have to read to get an A. i crammed for the midterm the night before (reading and all), and got an A-. studied 2 weeks beforehand for the final, and got a C. gLuck!
lectures are straightforward, well-organized. do the readings, go to class and you will do well.
great class, great prof, very knowledgeable, EXTREMELY nice and helpful - these other whiners are slackers; go to class, do the work, learn something
He is awful. I enjoyed his class at first, I thought he was just very confident until I tried talking to him. He made me feel like an idiot for even daring to ask him a question. He was extremely rude and condescending. Don't take him unless you have to.
Cocky Professor, but I enjoyed the class. Hard to get an A, but I did it.
this class was brutal...had to drop it.
He is EXTREMELY hard and insane test creator. He covers an impossible amount of info. in one day. If you have to take it, do so in the summer... there is no essays and class is more personalized.
Dreaded going to every class...knows his stuff, but is ridiculously pompous. I've had profs in the past who were just as intelligent (or more so), but were much more approachable. You get the feeling he's only out for himself, and isn't much interested in helping students. I wouldn't take another class from him unless I had no choice.
the most ridiculous professor at UCSB. very rude, unapproachable, and intimidating. purposely condescending, as if he trying to make others feel bad and himself better. reminds me of the bully in elementary school. would never take a class with him, let alone be in a conversation together
Flannagin was the most unfriendly professor I had at UCSB. He is intimidating and condescending. His classes are tough - he is very demanding. He nitpicks and is unforgiving with grades. Avoid Flannagin.
Slackers should avoid Flanagin, but can obviously use this site to vent after they don't do well in his class! His class is tough, but he's an amazing teacher and very helpful and concerned about his students. If you want to learn, then he's for you. I
Very very uptight, very intimidating, hard to work with or get along with.
worst class I've taken at UCSB!
