Maybe my favorite professor at UCSB even though chemistry may be the bane of my existence. I took Lewis for the entire Ochem series online so we had weekly quizzes which made up most of our grade and one "final quiz". I watched the lectures and then read which made the book an easier read. Does give some opportunities for extra credit. Lewis GOAT

Prof Lewis is hands down the best professor I have ever had at UCSB! Very fair and genuinely wants his students to learn. A real gem! Ochem is still very hard but felt much easier than the gen chem series because of his teaching!

BEST PROF IVE EVER HAD AT UCSB. Professor Lewis made learning ochem a breeze (if you put in the work, obviously). Super understanding of student situations and doesn't try to trick you at all on exams. If you have the choice of Lewis vs any other professor, PICK LEWIS!!

Lewis is the best prof I have ever had for chemistry. Especially since o chem is known for its difficulty, this man has made my life so much easier because he cares for all his students and grades fairly. Sometimes it seems he is the only prof that takes this pandemic into account for student's lives. I am trying to take the full series from him.

Lewis is a straightforward, nice OChem professor! Tests are fair. Lectures are clear, organized, and taught in an understandable way, but you do still have to do all the book problems and homework, take solid notes, and study hard to do well. (Review based on pre-pandemic times). Take him for OChem if you can!

Dr. Lewis is a great professor, he taught the material very cleary, I really enjoyed being in his lectures. The course had a lot of homework/quizzes, which can be good if you're not doing very well in one area. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking to take O chem.

I cant imagine why hed ever have a bad review. Truly one of the best professors Ive had despite teaching a very challenging class. Super flexible and accommodating during the pandemic and supplies you w/ more than enough info for the quizzes. Read the textbook for tough chapters and you might even enjoy ochem more than gen chem. very organized!

Lewis might actually be THE best professor I've had at UCSB. He's always accessible through email and shows a deep level of care and respect for his students. The material is hard, but Lewis really does his best to set you up for success. As long as you put in the work (textbook reading, book problems, lectures) you'll get at least a B

Grade based on weekly mastering chem problems, weekly quiz, 3 reflective essays(very easy), BACON quizzes and final. Most points came form quizzes and mastering chem so make sure you stay on top of material. Lewis was extremely organized and very caring. It's a tough subject but lewis makes it very bearable. Lectures are divided into 10-20min vids.

Lewis is an absolute gem. The material is hard, but you can ace the quizzes by watching the lectures, taking good notes, and doing all the book problems. It's honestly not that hard if you put the time in; book problems take a while, but they pay off. OChem wouldn't have the reputation it has if Lewis taught everyone's first course.

Lewis is a great lecturer who really cares about his students and truly wants what is best for them. The course itself and the topics are difficult but Lewis makes it understandable. He is very accommodating to any issues that arise. Do the book problems and do hw and you will be fine.

He is very organized, responsive, makes sure to answer all the questions, and usually responds to emails quickly, very kind, flexible when it comes to extending deadlines. Some lecture videos are not helpful, sometimes there are harder and more complicated concepts and lectures are not that helpful in understanding it. Some quizzes are very hard.

One of my favorite professors in the Chem department aside from Joseph. I really like his teaching style & really appreciate that theres no midterms/finals while distance learning. Very approachable with office hours basically 4 times a week which saved my grade. Practice problems can get you to pass any of his weekly quizzes too.

In a pandemic, you would think the professor would be more accommodating towards increasing the quality of teaching organic chemistry. Nope. You read the textbook and teach it to yourself and he gives a short 10 minute video over very complex topics. Only good thing is that about half of your grade comes from BACON, mastering chem, and essays.

Genuinely one of the best professors I've had at UCSB. I don't like organic chemistry, but Lewis made the lectures interesting and broke the material down so that it was very understandable. The tests were very fair and followed lecture.

Lewis's class may be difficult, but he is one of the best professors out there. He is organized, very accessible out of class, and cares for his students a lot. His exams are overall difficult but as long as you read the textbook and do mastering chemistry and book problems along with the topics he covers on his lectures, you're guaranteed to pass.

Amazing lecturer! Lectures were organised and clearly structured to make you really understand the material being taught. Lewis is a really friendly guy and helps all students. To succeed it is important to read the book before lecture, attend the lecture and do practice problems. Not too difficult if you also put in the recommended work!

One of the best profs I've ever had; his lectures are clear and helpful, his tests are straightforward, and he's always willing to help after class. I had Bruice the first time and got a D; with Lewis, I got an A. He always answers emails quickly and lets you do test corrections (and he gives so many points back!) Take his class and thank me later!

Dr. Lewis is a real gem of a Professor. He genuinely cares about teaching and your success. This class by nature is really hard but Lewis actually made it fun. Track down his old exams, go to CLAS, do book problems, etc. I have emailed Lewis tons of questions and he answered quickly and even made me my own worksheets to help explain and teach!

He's a wonderful lecturer. He uses the chalkboard so you can't rely on slides online, but this means the pace is perfect in-class. Answers questions clearly. Keeps you engaged. Tests had some tricky questions but nothing unreasonable--understand the MasteringChem and do book problems. Super helpful in office hours. 5% easy extra credit.

Clear and intense lectures. Read textbooks before the lecture or it would be hard to follow. He spends much time on mechanism which might be good for understanding the materials of organic chemistry
