Very knowledgeable and committed to the topics. The class is pretty broad in scope but he provides very excellent examples, summaries and analyses. His lectures slides are clear and useful. The textbook reading is interesting but not vital in understanding the content.
Great class that makes you look at the world differently. Also one of the best teachers I have ever had. He not only is extremely knowledgable and articulate in his lectures but he cares so much about the students. No homework other than some reading, he has 2 pop quizzes but you have the whole day to complete, and essay based midterm.
David is the sweetest professor ever and genuinely cares about his students and getting them interested in the lecture material and books read. There is no homework aside from a midterm/final paper that he helped a lot for, and all you have to do in the class is readings that are genuinely interesting.
David is such an engaging lecturer with a witty sense of humor that isn't painful to listen to. He's a professor that actually cares about his students. He takes time to understand students' schedules and is very accommodating for the midterm (gives you a whole day to do them). 10/10 would take his class again.
Great lecturer made the material far more interesting than it likely otherwise would have been. Textbook was provided via PDF for free, no readings outside this book. Grading was fair, light homework compared to many other similar classes
He doesn't give grade. All grades are given by TAs. As afrontmentioned by another student, his lectures are boring, but his grading is fair and is not related to your final grade to a great extent. After all he is a nice professor who turned mid term into take home exam just because something went wrong with the submission.
Quite possibly the worst lecturer I've ever had. Extremely monotonous and the content was wildly boring. Either no one showed up or slept during the lectures. Had to go through LOOPS to get an extension on the final paper... Otherwise, midterm and final are graded fairly and other than that, there was no homework. Section attendance mandatory.
He is a truly good professor. Not intimidating, makes things very interesting, and cares about the wellbeing of his students. Overall great professor
I did the online. Prof Moak's lectures are short and a good general overview of the readings. Quizzes weekly. Not hard. Sections, mid, and finals are graded by TA, which is really important. The grading criteria is not clear. I got 7 points in the midterm deducted for forgetting to include a citation page, which is insane. So TA really matters.
Put in no more than 10 hours for this class and got A-. Quizzes are easy to get 100 percent if you glance at the slides, sections were fairly little work and easy points for just attending/ saying something, proposal and final project were open ended only requires 4 hours work in total. Ended with mid 91 percent, a little more effort would be an A.
Loved this class, was very easy and Moak makes the concepts super digestible. Is also very accommodating and wants you to do well.
I really enjoyed this course and Professor Moak! The lectures were interesting and the perfect length. Moak is incredibly friendly and is always willing to help. The assignments consist of 4 quizzes (easy if you watched the lectures), final project proposal, final project, and participation. I highly recommend this class for a GE course.
My favorite prof so far. Made the online lectures super interesting and actively tried to engage with his students who attended live lectures (not mandatory, recorded & posted). Grading and assignments were very clear and he gave a good amount of time for students to complete everything. I will definitely be taking another class with him.
Prof. Moak is passionate about his subject and the class (Holocaust in France) was interesting. Participation and attending class is a must. The grades were based on attendance (27%), a midterm (33%) and a final (40%) with an extra credit assignment of turning in an outline of your final.
Moak was super chill! Lots of reading, but engaging lectures and pretty minimal assignments. For Global 1, midterm was an essay and the final was a pretty easy MC exam. He gave the online class warning for pop quizzes, but be aware of that in person. Just pray you get a good TA
Really nice guy. He is very accomodating considering the Covid situation. The pop quiz and exam will remain for 24 hours, which really helps with international students like me who live in a totally different time zone. Would definitely recommend this class to a friend for GE requirements.
Prof. Moak is pretty solid and I don't understand all the really negative reviews. He's a pretty nice guy and wants people to do well in his class. His lectures can be pretty boring, but interesting if you enjoy history (slides are packed). Readings can also be long and boring. Work load consisted of weekly forum posts, 2 essay midterm and final.
I had Moak for HIST 123C during Fall '20. The course was remote but I felt that I learned a lot anyway. Moak structures the course perfectly and his lectures were easy to understand. There were two essays in the course which had fairly easy topics. In addition, there was a discussion board that I viewed as pointless but it not difficult.
Professor Moak really made me appreciate global studies, and reminded me why I want to major in the subject. Although he does grade on a few things he makes the final extremely clear due to it being based off of lecture. I really enjoyed this class and looked forward to lecture! Take his class! :D
Moak is a gem. He recognizes that we're under a lot of stress because of COVID, and sincerely cares that we enjoy lectures and the material. Made me reconsider my major
This is the easiest Gen Ed class I've ever taken. If you're looking for an easy A take this class! There are weekly lectures and readings- the readings don't even matter for the tests. I never went to a lecture, I just skimmed through the lecture notes before the tests and ended up with an A. Literally put in 0 work. He's also very caring and great
Professor Moak is very kind and funny. With that being said, you need not show up to live sessions but you should at least take the time to watch his recorded lectures and take notes since most of his quizzes and the final are based on his lectures. Make sure you do the discussion groups in case anything happens last minute and need a grade boost.
Great professor who obviously cares about the subject and his students! I took the class online, and I read a little of the textbook, but mostly watched the lectures (which can be watched async) and still learned a lot and passed. Would recommend this prof!
amazing professor. the lectures and material are very inspirational. and there is not much homework but a weekly forum. there are tow pop quizs and final, the note on slides are important and go to the lecture you would be fine. if you read the lecture carefully enough the reading would be optional
