Had her for mcdb 1b too. She's one of the smartest people I know - I don't just mean knowing the material. There is so much people can learn from her, and I think you have to take something other than an intro class of 800+ before you can properly judge anybody - she is so much better than these comments
Low is fantastic. Originally, I was scared to take class with her because of what I read on here, but I shouldn't have worried. She's been one of my fav's so far. Don't read the book. EVERYTHING you need to know is on the slides and stuff she says in class. Print out the slides & you're good!
She is really funny and interesting to hear lecture, but I think people are confusing that for a good professor. I like her lectures, but I dont get what I need out of them. She leaves a huge amount out, assuming we somehow already know. Also her tests are brutal- not so much what she asks but how, very difficult wording.
Good interesting lectures, she has a natural ability to hold your attention even when talking about complicated concepts, I find some of the other MCDB lecturers a bit monotonous but Lowe is one of the cooler ones and really funny.
she is interesting and good at lecturing, but the tests are extremely hard. has fill-in problems on the midterms, tough
Very good teacher. Cares a lot about her students, which shows in lecture and in section. Great advice for grad/med school as well. Great sense of humor!
By far the best lecturer in the MCDB department! The videos she puts up are really helpful, and she is great to talk to 1 on 1. She is hilarious & made micro interesting and really fun. I would take another class with her if offered :D
best mcdb ever
She's HILARIOUS! Her lecture slides her clear and she explains things more than once so that you can understand the concept the second time. Her videos are helpful, too. It makes understanding the mechanisms much easier. She emails back quickly and makes microbiology fun!
Tough, hard to understand. Tests are very hard. Took during summer, very fast, wish I had waited until normal year.
A relatively easy yet interesting class, her method of lecturing and clear explanation made me warm up to a subject I generally avoid. By far the best science general ed.
I went to her office hours frequently and she is very helpful and approachable! This class was not easy but if you actually go to lecture and study you will find the tests are fine. She is such a nice sweet lady and does not deserve most of these comments. I think she's a great teacher.
She's a nice teacher. Lectures might be a bit all over the place. But the tests are straight forward. I have to disagree w/ these other ppl's comments about her, because she's a nice person and very approachable and helpful. If you think her class is hard, it's probably your fault. Because I worked hard and I got a really good grade. No complaints.
OMG! SHE MADE MY LIFE SOOOOO MISERABLE THAT QUARTER. Her tests are the worst tests you could imagine to take EVER. Basically : "It's A but not B, It's A, B and C, it's not B but it could be A or D, or it's none of the above except E" She just wants to screw you over with her Plant hormone questions. AVOID!!!!!
she teaches WAY TOO FAST!!! she thrOws SOO MUCH maTeriaL aT yOu in one LeCTure. tip: if ur LosT, RAiSE UR HAND and maKe her repeaT iT if iTs nOT cLear! oTherwise, yOuLL be SOO LOST... cause she'LL keep on gOing and throWing mOre maTeriaL aT yOu!
Enjoyed Ruth. Not the most dynamic lecturer, but not terrible. Not sure why so many folk complain about the grading. Too much time on DP to earn a A?
sooooo boring
plant development, not too many people in class. her tests are pretty straight forward and from lecture.
